Sunken halls is the ruin. The arena is an old court of flagstones, and around it the ground falls away to a drowned hall far below. That lower layer moves slightly as you play, which gives the place a real sense of depth. The inner walls are carved stone blocks, marked with runes that glow teal, and braziers burn orange on their ends.

Food and light

The food is the jade scarab, a small green beetle that glows in the same teal as the runes. Each bite sends a ring of light across the flagstones, and the runes flare as it passes.

Ambient life

Embers rise from the braziers, dust drifts through the air, crows sometimes fly over, and moths circle the light. Like all ambient life, it stays out of the arena itself.

Place names

The ruins name each shape after a part of an old city:

Practice here is played in the Practice Court.

Does it change the game?

No. For all the fire and depth around it, the board is the same as anywhere else: the same grid, the same walls, the same food spots and speed for every player that day. The floor is checked to stay readable under the snake, and the colour-blind setting gives the snake and food high-contrast colours if you need them. The day's biome comes from the date and never repeats two days in a row. See every place on the arenas page.
