The daily tournament, explained

Every day Snakoff runs one knockout tournament for everyone in the world. There is no sign-up and no bracket to wait for: you play when a round is open, and the round’s results decide who goes on. This page explains the rules in full.

The rounds

Most days have four rounds. Times are in UTC (the game shows them in your own time):

Round 100:00 – 12:00 UTC
Round 212:00 – 16:00 UTC
Round 316:00 – 20:00 UTC
Final20:00 – 24:00 UTC

The number of rounds follows the size of the field. With very few players the day has three rounds, and with very many it has five, so the final stays a sensible size. The day’s schedule is fixed at midnight UTC, from the previous day’s field.

Each round is harder than the one before. Round 2 is 12% faster. Round 3 has one food fewer on the board at a time. The final is both faster and has one food fewer.

Your run and the line

In each round you get one warm-up and then one run that counts. Every player plays the same arena, and the food appears in the same spots for everyone, so scores are directly comparable.

When the round closes, the line is drawn at the player in the middle: everyone who scored at least as much goes through. That is roughly the better half of the field. Everyone below the line is out for the day. If you were through and don’t play the next round, you’re out too.

Until the round closes, the line is only “so far”: more players can still play and move it. The result screen and the leaderboard both show where it is right now.

Joining late and the second chance

You don’t have to start in Round 1. If you haven’t played today, you can join whichever round is open, and you are cut like everyone else in it. Once you have played a round, only making the cut keeps you in.

If you are knocked out, Snakoff offers one second chance a day: watch an ad or spend 150 coins to play the round again. It is only there while the round that knocked you out is still open, and not in the final.

The final and the champion

The final has no cut. Whoever eats the most food wins the day. If two players ate the same amount, the one who stayed alive longer is ahead, and if that is level too, the one who ate their last food first wins.

The champion gets their name on everyone’s Home the next day, plus looks that can only be won: the Champion snake and a “Champion of” title with the date. Some of the names on a busy board can be practice bots; they are marked as bots.
